God Works the Night Shift

Here are my notes from the session titled above:

GOD WORKS THE NIGHT SHIFT
Isaiah 45:7 I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things.
Why do we have to go through dark times in our lives?
1) So God can FORM us:
Galatians 4:19 My little children, of whom I travail in birth again until Christ be formed in you,
travail: transition period form: change, metamorphosis (Let God do an "Extreme Makeover" on you!) Every event in your life PUT TOGETHER means something, even though it may not make sense individually
until: a long time, a slow process
We are in transition periods (travail) as God changes (forms) us into the image of Christ, which is a long, slow process!

2) Because of the FELLOWSHIP He enjoys with us (I didn't get the Bible verse here)
God wants to spend time with us, and it is only in the dark times of life that we tend to seek that fellowship like He wants with us

3) He reveals His secrets and hidden treasures in the darkness
He puts us in darkness so that He can develop His image in us... just like photo film in a dark room
What do we do when we are in darkness?
1) Look to the Lord for forgiveness
2) Look to the Lord for guidance
3) Look to the Lord -> Look BACK on His faithfulness
4) Look to the Lord in prayer
When we depend on education, we get what education can do.
When we depend on others, we get what others can do.
When we depend on prayer, we get what GOD can do!
5) Look to the Lord and be glad!
6) Look to the Lord for His return... He's coming VERY SOON!
Hope this encourages you if you are going through a dark time... it sure did encourage my heart!
I'm going to try to share some of the other notes from sessions that encouraged/convicted my heart. I hope they'll be a blessing to you!

Still Alive...

Hi, everyone! Yes, I'm still alive! I can't believe how lax I've been about posting lately. I was just looking at the "count" of blog posts... 201 in 2007, as compared to this being the 32nd post of 2008! I've been busy reading EVERYONE ELSE's blogs... and I'm addicted to Facebook! So, there you have it!
Well, August was very busy for us, as has this first week of September!

The first week of August (3-7) was our Youth Conference at our church, Shawnee Baptist, here in Louisville. We had 961 teens from (I think) 34 different states and 4 different countries that attended the conference. Our Youth Conference is different in that the kids come to hear the preaching of God's Word... 6 times a day for 3 days straight, then on Thursday they get to go to Kentucky Kingdom. It was absolutely AWESOME! You can check out the pics that I posted on Facebook here:

The following weekend, the 15th, Chris had free tickets given to him for a Cincinnati Reds baseball game. We called our friends, Steve & Joy Francis, and met them at the game. We enjoyed their company, the game, and the fireworks after the game that we watched as we were walking back over the bridge from Cincinnati to Florence, KY. I had to work EARLY the next morning, so I was VERY tired, but it was fun anyway. More pics here

The next day after work, Chris and I headed to Lexington, KY. Chris had mandatory training for his work that Sun/Mon, and we have friends that live in Lexington. Since Monday was my birthday (happy birthday to me! :-P), I didn't want to spend it by myself or working while Chris was out of town. We called Kevin & Beth Busch, and we spent the weekend with them (and their son, Silas,) instead... well, I spent time with Beth while Chris was in training. I also got to visit some friends... the Valentine's... that we hadn't seen for a LONG time! Their kids are adorable! Beth made me a cake for my birthday, and we celebrated Sunday night. See more pics here

On the 23rd, we had free tickets to a Bats game, so invited our friends, Scott & April Mohler to join us at the game. We enjoyed the fellowship with them, and were greatly entertained at the game by the presence of the San Diego Chicken mascot. It was fun! Click here to see more pics

I left on Aug. 29th to drive (all by myself) to Watertown, WI, to see my whole family together (except Chris couldn't go... SOMEBODY has to work around here!) :-) It was Maranatha Baptist Bible College's Alumni "scrimmage," and my older brother, Steve, and middle brother, Greg, were playing on the alumni team against my baby brother, Nathan, who was playing on the Crusaders college team (for the last year.) It was so fun to watch them play again, and also to see my family together. I got to meet my newest nephew, Colt... who is absolutely ADORABLE! (of course). I really wish Chris could have come with me, but he is saving his time off for another very special occasion later this fall that we are praying God provides the time off/money for us to go. It was a good time with my family though, and it's rare for them to all be together at the same time. I tried to upload pictures to Facebook, but I couldn't get it to upload the other night, so I'll have to post a link when I get them up there.

This weekend, our church had their Ladies' Retreat. I had to work, since I was gone last weekend. Fortunately, I work only 30 minutes from the camp where our Retreat was held, so I went there from work, spent the night, and drove back to work this morning. It was a shorter distance to drive to the camp than to drive home, so it worked out well, and I enjoyed the short time I was able to spend there. It was a blessing!

So - that's the major run-down of things going on here. In other news, I FINALLY went to the doctor to get a sleep study done. Chris thinks that it's very possible that I have sleep apnea. My sleep study is scheduled for Sept 23, so please pray that they can figure out what is wrong with me so that I can get it fixed (hopefully without medicine!) I have been SO incredibly tired lately (more-so than usual!) I've been dozing off when driving to/from work a lot lately, which is very scary and dangerous! So - please pray for all of that.

That's it for now... see you next month! :-) Just kidding -I'm hoping to blog a little more frequently now.

Good quotes

These quotes were taken from an e-mail I received today, and I thought I'd post them here for you to think about:

'Some people spend an entire lifetime wondering if they made a difference in the world. But, the Marines don't have that problem' -- Ronald Reagan (my BIL is a Marine... Semper Fi)

'If we ever forget that we're One Nation Under God, then we will be a nation gone under.' Also -- Ronald Reagan

One last thought for the day: In case we find ourselves starting to believe all the Anti-American sentiment and negativity, we should remember England's Prime Minister Tony Blair's words during a recent interview. When asked by one of his Parliament members why he believes so much in America , he said: 'A simple way to take measure of a country is to look at how many want in.. And how many want out.'

Only two defining forces have ever offered to die for you:
1. Jesus Christ
2. The American Soldier

One died for your soul, the other for your freedom.

And I, for one, am eternally grateful for BOTH Jesus Christ, and our American soldiers! We love you, pray for you, and are proud of you!

So overwhelmed...

I'm so overwhelmed by what I'm going to tell you, I get tears in my eyes almost every time I share the story or think about it! I was going to post this story earlier, but I typed it once and lost it, and didn't feel like typing it all over again that day. Then Danielle posted about her little prayer warrior, and I wanted to share my story, too.

This all started on Marcy 5th, the Wednesday after we found out that our last IVF pregnancy test was negative. During the greeting time just before the offertory, I was standing talking to two of my friends, as another friend's 5 year old daughter, Abby, was walking by. She caught my eye because as she was walking, she kept looking at me like she wanted to say something, but didn't want to interrupt. As she walked past my one friend, I caught her eye and smiled at her. I guess that was her cue, because she leaned in between my two friends and softly said, "We're praying for you." Of course, I had to hold back the tears, but my heart was touched to the core. Over the course of this IVF, we have had MANY, MANY people praying for us (and we are SO thankful!) But there was just something about the sincerity in her beautiful eyes as she looked at me... to think that this little girl was praying for ME! After the service, Chris and I caught up with Abby's mom and dad. I shared the story with them, and Abby's mom, Lisa, told me, "Oh, yes, she's our little prayer warrior. She will pray for something FOREVER, sometimes even AFTER the request has been answered (surgery past, seizures controlled, etc.) Sometimes I get so frustrated with all of her prayer requests that I have to limit her to TWO at bedtime!"

Wow - to me that was overwhelming, amazing... and CONVICTING! To have the effectual, FERVENT prayer... of a 5 year old... poured out at the foot of the throne of grace... FOR ME! How often do I pray with that kind of abandon?!?!?

The story doesn't stop there, though! That following weekend, we had a big snowstorm here. Abby's dad is the pastor of our chapel in Scottsburg, IN, which only meets on Sunday mornings. They had Sunday school all together that morning (her dad told me this Sunday night), and Abby asked prayer for me (that I would have a baby) in their combined SS. Every time I talk to Abby's parents, they remind me that she is praying for me. Lisa told me that one time Abby's older sister, Sarah, told Abby, "Abby, you don't have to pray for Mrs. Heather EVERY time!" To which Abby replied, "Yes, I DO! That's how God hears me!" Oh to have that kind of child-like faith!

Then, Easter night after the evening service, we went out to Steak-N-Shake with Abby's family and another family. The kids (6 of them) were all at one table and the adults at the other. We prayed separately from the kids, but after the kids table had prayed, Abby continued to sit with her head bowed and her hands folded. Gina asked Lisa about it, and Lisa said that Andrew didn't do a good enough job praying for what Abby wanted, so she continues to pray until she asks God for all of her requests. When Abby finished, Lisa asked her, "Abby, what were you praying for?" Abby sweetly replied, "Mrs. Heather to have a baby." Again - overwhelming!

Then, yesterday, my friend, Angie, sent me a message, and told me that her girls pray for us every night, that we will have a baby. As I hear these things, I can just imagine God up in heaven, listening to the sweet prayers of this little girls on my behalf. I can feel Him wanting so much to give them their requests, but instead, having to whisper back, "Keep praying, girls, keep praying. I hear you, but it's not time yet. Soon... soon... but it's not time YET!" Can you guess whose little girls will be among the first to know when God does bless us with the answer to their prayers (and those of MANY others)?

Thank God for the parents who have taught their children to pray like that! And Lord willing, when God blesses us with a child, I will be able to teach them that very same thing! And if your child prays like that, PLEASE don't discourage them! Satan will do that soon enough!

Grieving...

THROUGH IT ALL, I CHOOSE TO SERVE THE SAVIOR
words by Randy Vader
Though the future seems uncertain, though the fear erodes my peace,
though the circumstance seems hopeless and the doubting will not cease,
I will claim what He has promised for my heart must recognize,
Mine is not to question, but keep focused on the prize...

Through it all, I choose to serve the Savior
Through it all, I claim Christ as my Friend,
Through it all, my faith will never waver,
Til He calls me home or comes again.

This path now set before me is not my route of choice,
Yet I must keep moving forward, listening to his still small voice.
Each step along this journey, He reminds me I'm His own
And through the cold dark loneliness I'm aware I'm not alone...

Through it all, I choose to serve the Savior
Through it all, I claim Christ as my Friend,
Through it all, my faith will never waver,
Til He calls me home or comes again.

TRUST HIS HEART
Carswell/Mason

All things work for our good - though sometimes we can't see how they could
Troubles that break our hearts in two, Sometimes blind us to the truth
Our Father knows what's best for us; His ways are not our own
So when your pathway grows dim, and you just can't see Him
Remember - you're never alone!

God is too wise to be mistaken, God is too good to be unkind,
So when you don't understand, and you don't see His plan,
When you can't trace His hand,
TRUST HIS HEART.

He sees the Master Plan; He holds the future in His hands.
So don't live as those who have no hope - All our hope is found in HIM
We see the present clearly, but He sees the first and the last
And like a tapestry, he's weaving you and me
To someday be JUST LIKE HIM.

God is too wise to be mistaken, God is too good to be unkind,
So when you don't understand, and you don't see His plan,
When you can't trace His hand,
TRUST HIS HEART.

As I sit here to write with tears in my eyes - These songs are bringing me so much comfort, and healing in my heart. Some of you that read this blog are familiar with what is going on, but many of you are not. I hesitated in posting this... but I believe that God wants to use this situation to honor and glorify HIM through me and my husband, and how can I do that if I keep this quiet?

As I write, I am grieving the loss of yet another set of two babies. Long story VERY short (I'll post more about all of this sometime in the future)... After almost 7&1/2 years of marriage and 4&1/2 years of praying that God would give us a baby (or two...), we found out on December 19th that we were pregnant! Again, condensing the story - we found out this summer that our chances of having a child of our own are pretty much non-existant (medically speaking) without some scientific help. Of course, we know that God is a God who loves to do the IMPOSSIBLE! However, through a series of advice from our pastor, a lot of prayer, and God opening the door, we chose to go down the road of in vitro fertilization (IVF). Our first IVF cycle was done in October. We have 9 babies... (since we believe life begins at conception.) In the first step of IVF, two of our embryos didn't survive, leaving us with 7. On October 5th, we had two embryos transfered into me. On October 18th, our pregnancy test was negative... two more of our precious babies were taken to Heaven at that point. Out of the remaining 5 embryos, 4 of them lived to the freezing stage (cryopreservation.) We went ahead with our second cycle, the transfer on December 7th. In the thawing process of IVF, we lost another baby. They were able to thaw out 2 embryos and transfer them into me. On Dec. 19, our pregnancy test and bloodwork indicated that I was, indeed, pregnant! Of course, we were ecstatic with the news!

On 12/21, my doctors repeated the lab work, just to make sure that the pregnancy was going well. In this bloodwork, they measure the HCG levels (which is the hormone that indicates pregnancy.) My first test, the count was 179. The second count on the 21st was 120. The HCG should have been INCREASING, not decreasing! The nurse practitioner called with the results and warned us that there was a high probability of miscarrying the babies. We took the warning very seriously; Chris put me on bed rest again until the next bloodwork was to be done. In the meantime, we just prayed and prayed, begging God for the lives of our little ones! (I was really praying for twins!) I didn't have any signs or symptoms of miscarriage (bleeding, etc.), so we were very hopeful yesterday when we redid the bloodwork.

At 2pm yesterday, our nurse practitioner called with the lab results. My HCG levels had dropped to 6 (anything under 10 is negative.) We lost our babies. Of course, I called Chris right away, and he rushed home from work to be with me. I've never had a pain like this in my heart... and we are grieving the loss of our precious babies. I honestly don't know how people that do not have a close relationship with Christ ever survive something like this... or any death for that matter! I am so thankful that I know the Lord as my personal Savior, and can run to Him in prayer, as well as read the comforting words that He placed in the Bible for us - for just times like these. I am so thankful that He is the God of all Comfort, that He has a plan for me, that His way is PERFECT, that His thoughts are higher than my thoughts, His ways than my ways! Though I don't understand (and may NEVER understand), I know that I can trust Him to do what is BEST for us! What a comforting thought that is... to know that since God chose not to give us THESE little ones - He must have something BETTER in store! It's kind of hard to imagine what that could possibly be, but I know that I can trust my Heavenly Father... because GOD IS GOOD, ALL THE TIME, and I know HE loves ME more than I could EVER love my little ones. I know that they are up in Heaven with God right now, just waiting for us to join them someday. Chris says that they are all - all 8 of them - going to look like him! :-)

Thank you, also, to those of you who have e-mailed us. You have been a great encouragement to our hearts. Though I hate to inform all of you of bad news, it is encouraging to me to know that I am surrounded by believers that daily, sometimes constantly are lifting us up in prayer. "I can do all things through Christ, which strengtheneth me." I couldn't handle going to work today, though, although I tried (I just couldn't stop crying.) I am planning to go back to work as normal on Monday, so you can pray for me in that as well. Pray that I can be a testimony to D's unsaved mom, and that I can be loving and patient with D. Also, pray that we again get to show the unsaved people with whom we work the grace that God gives through the trials that we face. Most importantly, though, pray that this refining fire that we are walking through right now will cause the imperfections in our lives to rise to the surface so that we can become more like Christ, as well as point others to HIM. After all, that is the true reason that we live.

Thanks for reading... I know I am not the only one who has struggles today. I'm not sure just why the Lord put it on my heart to share this today, but obviously there is someone out there in the blogosphere that needed to hear my story.

Oh, yes, one more thing. We do have one more chance with IVF... we still have one frozen embryo, and they will transfer just a single embryo. We're not sure yet when we will go forward with the next cycle... at this point we are just taking one day at a time. I'm guessing that it may not be for a while... we need time to grieve and heal emotionally, as well as giving my body time to regroup. (I have a very sore bum from LOTS of intramuscular injections!) Also, it is another major financial step, since we haven't met our insurance deductible or out-of-pocket expenses for the new year. Oh, well... again, God is very much aware of all these things, so we will just deal with today's pressures as they are here, and let tomorrow take care of itself.

We continue to claim OUR PROMISE: Psalm 113:9 He maketh the barren woman to keep house, to be the joyful mother of children. Praise ye the LORD.

2 Corinthians 12:9 And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

Hope you have a lovely day! :-)
Our first two babies that were transfered. These pictures were taken 3 days after fertilization... the first baby is only 8 cells, and the secone one 7 cells.
These are our second two babies at about 8 days after fertilization. They are somewhere around 80-100 cells each. The first embryo is actually hatching... which they need to do in order to implant into the uterine lining. I just think it's so cool that we have pictures of them... most women don't have any idea that they are pregnant at this point... and I have pictures of my babies! :-)

Merry CHRISTmas!!!

Thanks be unto God for His
UNSPEAKABLE GIFT!

(II Corinthians 9:15)

Don't forget the GREATEST GIFT we've ever received this Christmas... that Jesus Christ left Heaven to be born in a manger, to die on a cross, to rise from the dead, to live in Heaven forever giving us the gift of ETERNAL LIFE if we choose to accept His gift! I pray that you have accepted God's gift.

John 3:16 For GOD so LOVED the world, that he GAVE his only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

Merry CHRISTmas from Chris and Heather Mitchell! :-)

For all the thorns in our life...

I received this story via an e-mail from my sis-in-law yesterday, and wanted to share it. I know that it's impossible to know who in your life, out of all the people that you know, is going through a difficult time at that very moment. So - for those of you, like me, who are going through tough times... this is a reminder... Oh - and you might want to grab a Kleenex or two before you start reading!!

For all the thorns in our life

Sandra felt as low as the heels of her shoes when she pulled open the florist shop door, against a November gust of wind. Her life had been as sweet as a spring breeze and then, in the fourth month of her second pregnancy, a "minor" automobile accident stole her joy. This was Thanksgiving week and the time she should have delivered their infant son. She grieved over their loss.
Troubles had multiplied. Her husband's company "threatened" to transfer his job to a new location. Her sister had called to say that she could not come for her long awaited holiday visit. What's worse, Sandra's friend suggested that Sandra's grief was a God-given path to maturity that would allow her to empathize with others who suffer.
"She has no idea what I'm feeling," thought Sandra with a shudder. "Thanksgiving? Thankful for what?" she wondered. "For a careless driver whose truck was hardly scratched when he rear-ended me? For an airbag that saved my life, but took my child's?"
"Good afternoon, can I help you?"
Sandra was startled by the approach of the shop clerk. "I ... I need an arrangement," stammered Sandra.
"For Thanksgiving? I'm convinced that flowers tell stories," she continued. "Are you looking for something that conveys 'gratitude' this Thanksgiving?"
"Not exactly!" Sandra blurted out. "In the last five months, everything that could go wrong has gone wrong." Sandra regretted her outburst, and was surprised when the clerk said, "I have the perfect arrangement for you."
Then the bell on the door rang, and the clerk greeted the newcustomer, "Hi, Barbara, let me get your order." She excused herself and walked back to a small workroom, then quickly reappeared, carrying an arrangement of greenery, bows, and what appeared to be long-stemmed thorny roses. Except the ends of the rose stems were neatly snipped: there were no flowers.
"Do you want these in a box?" asked the clerk.
Sandra watched - was this a joke? Who would want rose stems with no flowers? She waited for laughter, but neither woman laughed.
"Yes, please," Barbara replied with an appreciative smile. "You'd think after three years of getting the special, I wouldn't be so moved by its significance, but I can feel it right here, all over again," she said, as she gently tapped her chest.
Sandra stammered, "Ah, that lady just left with . . . uh . . she left with no flowers!"
"That's right," said the clerk. "I cut off the flowers. That's the 'Special'. I call it the Thanksgiving Thorns Bouquet. Barbara came into the shop three years ago, feeling much as you do today," explained the clerk. "She thought she had very little to be thankful for. She had just lost her father to cancer; the family business was failing; her son had gotten into drugs; and she was facing major surgery. That same year I had lost my husband," continued the clerk. "For the first time in my life, I had to spend the holidays alone. I had no children, no husband, no family nearby, and too much debt to allow any travel."
"So what did you do?" asked Sandra.
"I learned to be thankful for thorns," answered the clerk quietly. "I've always thanked God for the good things in my life and I never questioned Him why those good things happened to me, but when the bad stuff hit, I cried out, 'Why? Why me?!' It took time for me to learn that the dark times are important to our faith! I have always enjoyed the 'flowers' of my life, but it took the thorns to show me the beauty of God's comfort! You know, the Bible says that God comforts us when we're afflicted, and from His consolation we learn to comfort others."
Sandra sucked in her breath, as she thought about what her friend had tried to tell her. "I guess the truth is I don't want comfort. I've lost a baby and I'm angry with God."
Just then someone else walked in the shop.
"Hey, Phil!" the clerk greeted the balding, rotund man.
"My wife sent me in to get our usual Thanksgiving arrangement...twelve thorny, long-stemmed stems!" laughed Phil as the clerk handed him a tissue wrapped arrangement from the refrigerator.
"Those are for your wife?" asked Sandra incredulously. "Do you mind telling me why she wants a bouquet that looks like that?"
"Four years ago, my wife and I nearly divorced," Phil replied. "After forty years, we were in a real mess, but with the Lord's grace and guidance, we trudged through problem after problem, the Lord rescued our marriage. Jenny here (the clerk) told me she kept a vase of rose stems to remind her of what she had learned from "thorny" times. That was good enough for me. I took home some of those stems. My wife and I decided to label each one for a specific "problem" and give thanks for what that problem taught us."
As Phil paid the clerk, he said to Sandra, "I highly recommend the Special!"
"I don't know if I can be thankful for the thorns in my life" Sandra said to the clerk. "It's all too . . . fresh."
"Well," the clerk replied carefully, "my experience has shown me that the thorns make the roses more precious. We treasure God's providential care more during trouble than at any other time. Remember that it was a crown of thorns that Jesus wore so we might know His love. Don't resent the thorns."
Tears rolled down Sandra's cheeks. For the first time since the accident, she loosened her grip on her resentment.
"I'll take those twelve long-stemmed thorns, please," she managed to choke out.
"I hoped you would," said the clerk gently. "I'll have them ready in a minute."
"Thank you. What do I owe you?"
"Nothing. Nothing but a promise to allow God to heal your heart. The first year's arrangement is always on me."
The clerk smiled and handed a card to Sandra. "I'll attach this card to your arrangement, but maybe you would like to read it first."
It read:
"My God, I have never thanked You for my thorns. I have thanked You a thousand times for my roses, but never once for my thorns. Teach me the glory of the cross I bear; teach me the value of my thorns. Show me that I have climbed closer to You along the path of pain. Show me that, through my tears, the colors of Your rainbow look much more brilliant."

Praise Him for the roses; thank Him for the thorns.

II Corinthians 1:3-4 "Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God."

He's Been Faithful To Me

The other night in church, the special music was a man singing the song, "He's Been Faithful To Me." We had this song sung at our wedding, which brought back many memories... but it also made me think back over the years since then, and remember the many, many times that God has shown Himself faithful... over and over and over again. I love the verses in Lamentations 3:22-23 (and I'm going to add in 21 and 24... they're just so good!) "This I recall to my mind, therefore have I hope. It is of the LORD'S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness. The LORD is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him."

In case you are not familiar with the song (I think I have heard it maybe 3 other places before and since my wedding) here are the words:

He's Been Faithful To Me
(words and music by Carol Cymbala)

In my moments of fear,
Through every pain, every tear,
There's a God who's been faithful to me.
When my strength was all gone,
When my heart had no song,
Still in love He's proved faithful to me.
Every word He's promised is true;
What I thought was impossible I see my God do.

He's been faithful, faithful to me,
Looking back His love and mercy I see.
Though in my heart I have questioned,
Even failed to believe
Yet, He's been faithful, faithful to me.

When my heart looked away,
The many times I could not pray,
Still my God, He was faithful to me.
The days I spent so selfishly,
Reaching out for what pleased me;
Even then God was faithful to me.
Every time I come back to Him,
He is waiting with open arms
And I see once again.

He's been faithful, faithful to me,
Looking back His love and mercy I see.
Though in my heart I have questioned,
Even failed to believe
Yet, He's been faithful, faithful to me.

This song has such great meaning and significance in my life... I hope it has been a blessing to you as well!

Quick Note

We just got back from a weekend trip to Boston... VERY fun, but I am VERY tired! I'll post more about our little jaunt later, but wanted to say hello!
And to share... Chris had the awesome opportunity to share his beliefs with his manager over lunch the other day. They got on the subject of "religion" because Chris (the manager) asked Chris (my hubby) about drinking since we were going to a baseball game this weekend. My hubby was able to tell him WHY we don't drink, then the conversation moved on to creation vs. evolution, etc.... and then they were interrupted. I'm always excited when God opens doors to witness to people because we have been faithful to allow the light of the GLORIOUS gospel of truth to shine unto all men THROUGH Christ working IN US! More about the weekend, tomorrow, hopefully! I took lots of pictures! :-) (surprise, surprise!)

Ladies' Retreat "IN GOD WE TRUST"

This past weekend, I attended the Ladies' Retreat that our church hosts every year at our camp, Indian Creek Baptist Camp. Though I didn't FEEL like going when it came right down to it, I was so GLAD that I did! It was such a blessing, and I thoroughly enjoyed the fellowship. Mrs. Cindy (Hiles) Schaap, the pastor's wife of First Baptist Church in Hammond, IN, was the special speaker. The other sessions were taught by ladies from our church. Here are some pictures from the retreat.

I don't know what this game is called, but it looked hilarious! There is an egg in the bag taped to the lady's hip, and each person is given a long cardboard roll (these were from wrapping paper or something). The object of the game is to break everyone else's egg without getting yours broken! It was hilarious to watch!
This is Kay and Katie... Kay is a ventriloquist, and she was VERY funny!
I don't know this lady, but she did a skit promoting a NEW, IMPROVED energy drink called "Red Hot Mama Booster!" It was hilarious!
Mrs. Nancy Mattingly (our pastor's wife) and Mrs. Sheila Sneider (assistant pastor's wife, retreat director, and my SS teacher - she actually helps her husband with our class)
My dear friend, Beth, and me
The theme was "In God We Trust," and the theme verse was Psalm 71:1 "In thee, O LORD, do I put my trust: let me never be put to confusion."
Our pastor's wife, Mrs. Nancy, spoke during the first session. Here is a brief outline, and I apologize if the verses aren't right... I'm not very good at taking notes and getting all the verse references down at the same time.
The Benefits of Trusting God (not all-inclusive!)
  1. I'm a RECIPIENT of GOD'S GRACE Eph. 2:8-9
  2. I'm an HEIR of ETERNAL LIFE John 5:10-12
  3. I am FORGIVEN, now and forever Eph. 5:1
  4. I am a NEW CREATURE II Cor. 5:17
  5. I am REDEEMED by the BLOOD OF JESUS CHRIST Gal 3:13
  6. I am at PEACE Phil 4:6-7
  7. I'm JUSTIFIED Rom 5:1
  8. I'm led by the SPIRIT OF GOD Rom 8:14
  9. I am ABLE to do ALL things through CHRIST who gives me STRENGTH Phil 4:13
  10. I am MORE than a CONQUEROR Rom 8:35-39

Well, I'll have to post more on the other sessions another time, but I hope this little bit was an encouragement to you like it was to me!

I am so blessed!

One of the verses I read in my devotions this morning really jumped out at me again: Psalm 68:19 "Blessed be the Lord, who daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God of our salvation. Selah."

I am so blessed! First of all, I have accepted God's gift of salvation which protects me from an eternity spent in Hell, and above that, gives me the certainty of an eternal home in Heaven. But not only did God do THAT for me, He also DAILY LOADS me with BENEFITS! Everything else good that happens to me on a daily basis is just another benefit from God that He desires to give to me ABOVE and BEYOND all that He has already given, and exceedingly abundantly above what I deserve. Thank you, Lord, for the many benefits that you have given me!

HE IS ALIVE!

He is ALIVE! Praise the Lord we serve a RISEN Savior! The God that I know and believe is not buried somewhere in some cold, dark tomb, but is in Heaven at the right hand of the Father, waiting to welcome me home! Hallelujah!

I LOVE EASTER! I don't think it has ever meant as much to me as it has this year, for some reason. Maybe it is because I sing in choir now and thinking so much more about the words I'm singing makes it come more alive in my mind. Anyway, on Sunday night we sang a song in choir called "It Was For Me." The words and message of that song are moving enough, but then our pastor got up and asked our choir director to have us sing another song. Pastor had heard us rehearsing it right before church with the orchestra to sing NEXT Sunday, and wanted us to sing it that night. So, we sang it (which I was thankful for because I love the song, and I'm not going to be in our church on Sunday to sing it!) The title is, "He is Alive." I don't remember all of the words to the verses, but I just couldn't help smiling while singing through the chorus. This song was one of those that sends tingles and makes me get goosebumps. Here are the words:

He is alive... No grave could hold my Lord
He is alive... new life He gives
He is alive... He rose upon that Easter morn
He is alive... my Savior lives!
I hope you all have a wonderful Easter weekend, and celebrate a GLORIOUS RESURRECTION DAY! HE IS ALIVE!
