Happy Thanksgiving!

May your stuffing be tasty
May your turkey plump,
May your potatoes and gravy
Have nary a lump.
May your yams be delicious
And your pies take the prize,
And may your Thanksgiving dinner
Stay off your thighs!
HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

1 Thessalonians 5:18
In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

Farewell, my friend... but not forever!

There are tears in my eyes as I type this, but thankfully, I as a Christian, can sorrow, but not as those who have no hope! Just a little while ago, a friend of mine called to tell me that another dear friend of mine slipped into eternity today after battling cancer that had come back. As difficult as it is to think of life without that person, she is no longer in a battle. She is sitting at the feet of her beloved Saviour, and I wouldn't wish her back here on earth for anything. What a blessing to know that she hung on long enough to see her newborn grandson (the first), and I know that will be a great memory for her son and daughter-in-law in the weeks ahead. My heart breaks for her husband (who has medical issues of his own) and her two boys, daughter-in-law, and grandson, who will have to go through this holiday season, and all those for years to come, without her. I know she will be greatly missed!

Carrie was an energetic, lively lady. She was constantly over-busy (is that a word?) because she was always wanting to help others. Every time I look at the curtains in my kitchen, I think of her. She came over a couple of days and sewed them with me. She and her husband helped us in the youth group when we lived in Maryland. They were such a blessing to us! Oh, yes, and she made FABULOUS brownies!

So, farewell, for now, my friend! I'm glad to know that you are with Jesus!

Please pray for the Bishop family: Steve (Carrie's husband); Jonathan, Sara, and their little baby boy (I'm not sure of his name); and Joshua, as well as the rest of the family and friends that are grieving Carrie's journey to Heaven.

1 Thessalonians 4:13 But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.

Just for fun... some OLD pictures! :-)

I was looking through some pictures today, and came across these old pictures. I thought I'd share them with you, since some of you know my family. The first few of these were given to me by my grandma this summer. The pics of my dad growing up and my parent's wedding picture were given to me by my mom a couple years ago, and the rest I've had probably since I moved out of my parent's house. Anyway, here's a little family history...

Thanks for taking this little trip through time with me! Sometime I'll have to see if I can find some of Chris' growing up pics to post!

Fall is finally here?!?!?

OK - it's the first week of November, and the trees are FINALLY starting to change color. It has been so hot here up until about 2 weeks ago, the trees hadn't changed at all. Here's a couple of pics of some pretty trees.

Update...

Well, I finally went back to the doctor yesterday to have him recheck my throat. Sure enough, I still have strep... apparently the strain I got was one of the 10-15% of strep strains that is resistant to penicillin. What a blessing! :-) The good news is that at least it isn't Mono! I got a new antibiotic, and hopefully this will kick it quickly! The doctor was also very nice in that he wrote a prescription for Chris, too, just in case he caught it. I'm thinking I probably won't have to use it, since I've had this for almost 2 weeks, and Chris hasn't caught it yet. However, you know that if I DIDN'T have it, then Chris would most assuredly come down with strep then have to go to the doctor, etc. Seriously, I'm glad it was just still strep, and as weird as that sounds, I have my reasons! My cold symptoms have mostly subsided, so it's just a little scratchy sore throat for the most part rather than the sneezing, sniffling, coughing, sore throat so you can't sleep type stuff! :-)

I posted a few pictures in the previous post of Lil D. He'll be 2 on Sunday... he's growing up so fast! He is adorable... but don't let the pictures fool you! He's been throwing some major temper tantrums lately! :-)

Tomorrow I have off work, and have some big plans! I have to go grocery shopping, then I am going to try to prep a whole bunch of recipes so that when I get home after work, I can just throw things together from the freezer rather than going through all that prep every night. Also, I have a few cards to make, and I'm working on my Christmas cards right now as well. I'm still working on getting pics for the calendars that I am making. Hopefully, I will be disciplined enough to get on these things instead of wasting my time away on blogging and Facebook!

I have to run to church, but I'll leave you with a couple of adorable pics my bro just sent me of my niece Aksana. Seriously, with so many cute pics... how am I supposed to pick just a few for the calendar?!?!?

Recent pictures

Lil D wearing my sweatshirt... he thought he was so cool! (This picture is also on here so you can see the comparison between his hair here and the haircut below.)Lil D after his first real haircut... I cut it! It's not perfect, since I did it all by myself, and he didn't sit very still. His mom asked that I leave the back longer, so that also didn't help.
Lil D having a great time on a new adventure at my house... STAIRS!
Lil D again enjoying the stairs... he did very well.

Lil D and his mom... D looks like a chemo patient in this picture, I think!
Cool sky
"X" marks the spot... It's kind of hard to tell in this pic, but a couple of planes had left a big X in the sky with their exhaust. I thought it looked pretty cool.

The past couple of weeks...

It seems like it's been a long time since my last post. I'm not sure how many of you actually READ this, so sometimes I need to write just for me. I guess my lack of blogging is related to the way I've been feeling lately. My personality tends to be negative, harsh, and judgmental, and since I've been fighting the grumbling spirit lately, it hasn't helped. I guess maybe I'll just vent, then share the good.

In my last post, I told you that I had strep throat... what a blessing! Well, it is now about a week &1/2 later, and my throat is still swollen with white patches on it! YUCK! I was feeling better until last Wed... when I got a cold added to my strep throat. It started out with sneezing and a few sniffles, and now has morphed into a sore throat with a dry cough. It's been hard to get sleep, and I know that doesn't help my complaining spirit, either.

Let me catch you up to date on a few things that have been happening here. First of all, Sat 10/27, I spent 5 hours in the Emergency Room (for work) with Lil D. He started running a fever at my house the day before, and when I got to his house Sat. am for work, his mom told me he had run a fever all night. The ER doc eventually told us it was pneumonia. Lil D has been pretty lethargic since then, sleeping for sometimes 4 hours of my shift (which is 1/2 the time). It makes for an easy day of work for me, but I feel bad for D.

That same Sat. we had our Trunk-or-Treat at the church. It's sponsored by our youth group for our church, and it's their fundraiser. People decorate the trunks of their vehicles, then they have costume contests for the kids, a pumpkin carving contest, a dessert auction, concessions, and a guess how many candies in the jar. The kids all get in a line and "trick-or-treat" around the trunks of the vehicles. It's a fun time of fellowship, and we enjoyed the time with friends. I was thrilled to have the privilege of carrying around my friends' 4&1/2 week old baby for the 2 hours that we were there! He was so sweet, and slept the WHOLE TIME! I do have to say that my arms were pretty tired by the end of the night... but it was SO worth it! :-)

The last Sunday of October, we finished our SS promotion, and OUR TEAM WON!! :-) We were excited about that!

On Halloween, I worked, and D was all dressed up as a little pumpkin. He is so adorable! I'll post pics soon! I'm not a big fan of Halloween personally, but I love seeing the kiddos all dressed up. They are so adorable.

Thursday, I was invited to my friend Shanna's house for lunch. Shanna is a pediatric doctor in her residency here in the area. She made French onion soup and sandwiches for us, and we spent a good 2&1/2 hours visiting. It was a great time of fellowship and I enjoyed her company.

Also this week, I have been able to talk to my SIL almost every day. We found out on 10/27 that a close friend of hers died on the Thurs before. She was/is really struggling dealing with the grieving process, and was by herself most every morning, so she called me to talk for an hour at least almost every day. It was good getting to know her a little better, and building that relationship.

Tuesday, I went over to a friend's house to start stamping my Christmas cards. She has two nativity - type stamp sets that I really liked. I've been very convicted the past couple years about sending out Christmas cards that have no reference to the REAL reason for Christmas - the Lord Jesus Christ - other than the saying "Merry CHRISTmas!" This year I wanted to change that, so my friend is allowing me to use her stamps to make my Christmas cards.

On Thursday, I went over to the same friend's house, and we had a stamping party. We folded some designer paper into barn-type stars, and then made a really cute snowman card with some non-traditional winter colors. I'll post them on my stamping site one of these days.... I always enjoy our stamping parties... I just love the fellowship!

Saturday, I was able to work an hour and 1/2 overtime, which will help a little with finances. Chris and I went over our financial status this weekend, and made some changes to how we were spending, etc. Hopefully that will help us get out of this hole we dug ourselves into!

Well, now that I write about it, I guess my week wasn't all bad after all! :-) I just struggle so much with a negative spirit when I'm over tired, stressed and sick!
