Hello! Well, it was an interesting weekend at our house.
First of all, I have been going to a new chiropractor. I REALLY like him, and am so glad that I am finally getting my back taken care of. Unfortunately, I have to go through some extra pain as my muscles SCREAM at me because they are so used to being in the WRONG position, but it will all be better in a while. I'm VERY sore today... some because of the adjustments and muscle work, and some because of taking care of Dakota this weekend.
Second, I oriented at my new work case on Friday. It made me cry as g-ma of the patient explained to me that she is caregiver of the little one because the parents abused the patient so much. She was only 8 pounds on her first birthday. How could ANYONE do that to their child?!??! Anyway, she is doing much better now, and g-ma is thrilled that I am coming to work there. Another dose of encouragement that was desperately needed.
Got a phone call at 12:30am Saturday morning informing me that *J* was being admitted into the hospital. Thankfully, after a few tests, they decided that there was nothing wrong with him, but I missed a couple of hours of work, besides getting the living daylights scared out of me when the phone rang in the middle of the night! :-) I also got to sleep in a little bit, too, so that was a blessing.
Dakota's mom called Saturday afternoon, asking if I still wanted to watch Dakota, since he was sick with a low grade fever. I told her I didn't care if she didn't. I knew she really needed a break. I overheard her asking D in the background if he still wanted to go to Heather's house, and he said "YES!" Then she asked if he wanted to stay with mommy since he was sick, to which he replied, "I not sick!" That was it... I told her that she could bring him anyway. I ended up getting up with him twice in the night because he woke up and then needed medicine. We did try to go to church (I kept him with me instead of putting him in the nursery.) He fell asleep on the bus ride (we went on the bus route with Chris), and slept about 15 minutes. He woke up at church, and was VERY whiny and wouldn't be quiet in the Sunday school class, so we went home. He fell asleep at 11:45am, and slept til 2:30 or so. In spite of him being sick, we enjoyed having him here. I'm not sure that Chris slept much either after D woke up the first time. :-) He's so smart, and it is so fun to hear all the things that he is learning. He did really well!
I finally fit into a dress that I bought a while ago, and we got pictures taken for the church directory. Hopefully they turn out nice. They looked a little iffy on the camera.
After life being so mundane for a while, it seems like life is going crazy the past two weeks! Also, got an e-mail from my bro, Steve, today, and they resigned their position at the church where he was youth pastor. They are headed up to Wake Forest, NC, to go to Southeastern Seminary there. They will be moving the week of May 24. Please pray for them and the youth group as they adjust to this change. Steve has been youth pastor there since April 2005. Thanks!
That's about it for now, I believe! Hope everyone had a great weekend! Oh, yeah... we have snow forcasted for tonight here. ???? The weather has been CRAZY! At least it melts fast here! I am thinking I still didn't move far enough south! :-)

The past couple of weeks...
It seems like it's been a long time since my last post. I'm not sure how many of you actually READ this, so sometimes I need to write just for me. I guess my lack of blogging is related to the way I've been feeling lately. My personality tends to be negative, harsh, and judgmental, and since I've been fighting the grumbling spirit lately, it hasn't helped. I guess maybe I'll just vent, then share the good.
In my last post, I told you that I had strep throat... what a blessing! Well, it is now about a week &1/2 later, and my throat is still swollen with white patches on it! YUCK! I was feeling better until last Wed... when I got a cold added to my strep throat. It started out with sneezing and a few sniffles, and now has morphed into a sore throat with a dry cough. It's been hard to get sleep, and I know that doesn't help my complaining spirit, either.
Let me catch you up to date on a few things that have been happening here. First of all, Sat 10/27, I spent 5 hours in the Emergency Room (for work) with Lil D. He started running a fever at my house the day before, and when I got to his house Sat. am for work, his mom told me he had run a fever all night. The ER doc eventually told us it was pneumonia. Lil D has been pretty lethargic since then, sleeping for sometimes 4 hours of my shift (which is 1/2 the time). It makes for an easy day of work for me, but I feel bad for D.
That same Sat. we had our Trunk-or-Treat at the church. It's sponsored by our youth group for our church, and it's their fundraiser. People decorate the trunks of their vehicles, then they have costume contests for the kids, a pumpkin carving contest, a dessert auction, concessions, and a guess how many candies in the jar. The kids all get in a line and "trick-or-treat" around the trunks of the vehicles. It's a fun time of fellowship, and we enjoyed the time with friends. I was thrilled to have the privilege of carrying around my friends' 4&1/2 week old baby for the 2 hours that we were there! He was so sweet, and slept the WHOLE TIME! I do have to say that my arms were pretty tired by the end of the night... but it was SO worth it! :-)
The last Sunday of October, we finished our SS promotion, and OUR TEAM WON!! :-) We were excited about that!
On Halloween, I worked, and D was all dressed up as a little pumpkin. He is so adorable! I'll post pics soon! I'm not a big fan of Halloween personally, but I love seeing the kiddos all dressed up. They are so adorable.
Thursday, I was invited to my friend Shanna's house for lunch. Shanna is a pediatric doctor in her residency here in the area. She made French onion soup and sandwiches for us, and we spent a good 2&1/2 hours visiting. It was a great time of fellowship and I enjoyed her company.
Also this week, I have been able to talk to my SIL almost every day. We found out on 10/27 that a close friend of hers died on the Thurs before. She was/is really struggling dealing with the grieving process, and was by herself most every morning, so she called me to talk for an hour at least almost every day. It was good getting to know her a little better, and building that relationship.
Tuesday, I went over to a friend's house to start stamping my Christmas cards. She has two nativity - type stamp sets that I really liked. I've been very convicted the past couple years about sending out Christmas cards that have no reference to the REAL reason for Christmas - the Lord Jesus Christ - other than the saying "Merry CHRISTmas!" This year I wanted to change that, so my friend is allowing me to use her stamps to make my Christmas cards.
On Thursday, I went over to the same friend's house, and we had a stamping party. We folded some designer paper into barn-type stars, and then made a really cute snowman card with some non-traditional winter colors. I'll post them on my stamping site one of these days.... I always enjoy our stamping parties... I just love the fellowship!
Saturday, I was able to work an hour and 1/2 overtime, which will help a little with finances. Chris and I went over our financial status this weekend, and made some changes to how we were spending, etc. Hopefully that will help us get out of this hole we dug ourselves into!
Well, now that I write about it, I guess my week wasn't all bad after all! :-) I just struggle so much with a negative spirit when I'm over tired, stressed and sick!

Round Up Sunday
Have I mentioned before how much I LOVE our church? :-) This past Sunday was "Round-Up Sunday"~ part of the Harvest Days of October at our church. It is kind of a SS promotion month, but they do all kinds of cool stuff. For instance, last week was "Western Day." Everyone dressed western (including ALL of the pastoral staff!) After the morning service, they had a petting zoo and pony rides for the kids.
This past week, like I said, was Round-Up Sunday. Our couples' retreat was that weekend, so the speaker, Raymond Harper, stayed over from that and spoke on Sunday as well. (Unfortunately, Chris and I didn't get to go to the retreat.) We also had a special guest ~ Bill Smith. He is the Senior World Champion Trick Roper, and he also works with whips. He is a Christian and is also 66 years old! Here are a few pictures from his rope/whip tricks. Of course, it's hard to get a good picture of the rope flying through the air, but you'll get the idea.

And his faithful steed, "Tumbleweed!"
After the morning service, Bill Smith did a roping demonstration/presentation in the gym. I didn't realize it was going on until I had already missed it! :-(
The next two Sundays are "Chuckwagon Sunday" and "Harvest Sunday." For Chuckwagon Sunday, they got, on loan, one of 3 original, restored chuckwagons from the days of the old west. We're having Cowboy Stew and cornbread after the morning service, and the Spanish ministry is selling real Mexican tamales. Our SS class is hanging around to fellowship over dinner and dessert.
On Harvest Sunday, after the morning service, the kids all get to pick pumpkins out of the pumpkin patch. Every adult gets a print called "The Guide" to take home... it's a picture of two cowboys on horseback.
Also, on Saturday, October 27th, we have our annual Trunk or Treat sponsored by the youth group. We all decorate the trunks of our cars, have a pumpkin carving contest, a costume contest for the kids, and the kids get treats from the trunks of the cars (instead of going trick-or-treating in their neighborhoods.) It's a very SAFE alternative.
So - anybody wanna come to church with us? :-)
